Poggio Antico I Poggi (Red)

Pretty red fruit, lots of orchard blossom on the nose. Tannins are potent and slightly wooded, fortunately subdued by lots of ripeness and quite a bit of alcohol. Rich, complex, inky. All the floral notes continue on the palate, supplemented by dark plummy hedgerow fruit, and dark confected, almost jammy black cherries. Lots of acidity balancing the alcohol, keeping the tannins silky and the structure very well-integrated and balanced. Despite that concentration and power, balance is preserved by keeping this surprisingly delicate and ethereal, without too much weight or excess - everything here serves a purpose. Modern, ripe, dark, decadent, concentrated - a bit unusual, but really lovely for it.
