Rosé writing competition

Once upon a time, rosé justified a once-a-year article, filling magazine pages in an otherwise sleepy July or August issue. As the category has grown, magazines and websites now include several articles on rosé throughout the year, exploring increasingly niche topics. We want to reward and promote authors, bloggers and influencers who are taking wine-writing one step further and talking about rosé as seriously as other wines. Rosé is more than just a single colour; it is pale, dark, still, sparkling, natural, dry or sweet.

Rosé deserves more than one-dimensional listicles, so we want to see articles that explore the following themes:

  • Rosé as a fine wine. We’re looking for articles that explore the influence of history, terroir, ageing, variety and vintage on rosé. There is more to the category than simple, thirst-quenching summer wines. We want verticals, geological maps, individuals and stories that explore tradition and prestige.
  • Rosé terroirs around the world. There’s more to the world of rosé than the south of France. We’re looking for articles that make us want to try rosés from around the world, or maybe even a small part of the south of France in greater detail, whether that’s the local history of rosé, or local styles of winemaking and their connection to the climate and soils of an area.
  • Rosé sustainability and diversity. Rosé is a new category to the world of wine, so we want to read stories about rosés that are made sustainably and that represent our modern and diverse society. This can be anything from innovative viticulture to an atypical journey of discovery of wine from an under-represented background.

We’re immensely grateful to the sponsors of this year’s competition, and to the panel that read and assessed the articles submitted with us. Our thanks in particular go to Château d’Esclans for sponsoring the first prize, a double magnum of Château d’Esclans Garrus, and Gérard Bertrand, sponsor of the Rosé as a fine wine category, with a prize of a magnum of Clos du Temple.

At our Fine Rosé Day, we announced the winners of the 2025 edition. Of 12 excellent submissions, two stood out, and we are thrilled to be able to promote them:

No articles were submitted that discussed the theme of sustainability, so after lengthy discussions, we have decided instead to reward the excellent quality of the articles written by the runners-up of the Rosé terroirs and Rosé as a fine wine categories:

Our most sincere thanks to our sponsors, Chateau d’Esclans, Gérard Bertrand, and AOC Ventoux, and to the panel of expert writers who joined us in reading these articles: Tamlyn Currin, Richard Bampfield MW and Tom Schreckinger.
