Château la Sable Marie (White) 2024 - OutstandingTasted by Elizabeth Gabay MW & Ben Bernheim

Very pale lemon white. Restrained on the nose, opening to soft notes of dill, pineapple, and a hint of bruised apples. On the palate, there is some lovely richness with crunchy soft pineapple, lemon, tropical fruit, and a hint of sweet saffron. Lovely intensity of ripe fruit that is beautifully perfumed and waxy. Not the clean, fresh, piercing acidity of early-picked wines, but a charming soft fruit with beautiful vibrant acidity that is zesty, crisp, and energetic. A linear chalky grey minerality races through the middle. Southern, traditional, and more genuine and earnest than so many of the Rolles, showing some lovely complexity of different flavours and elegance of demi-muids. Sublime Provencal white that doesn't feel the need to look over its shoulder or imitate Burgundy. Always one of our favourite whites, and this vintage is no exception.
