Domaine des Oeuvres-Vives Bandol (Rosé) 2024 - OutstandingTasted by Elizabeth Gabay MW & Ben Bernheim

Pale coral pink. Smoky strawberry fruit and lots of dark, confected, intense fruit on the nose. Reductive, saline, austere, and tight initially, but after opening up, the reductive notes disappear to reveal raspberry fruit, hints of dark citrus, blood orange, and a black inky smokiness. A touch of tropical flowers and pineapple. Beautifully crisp and exceptionally concentrated. Textural, grippy, and gutsy with mouthwatering, long minerality, lavender, and chalky acidity. Wonderfully austere and saline; this is like licking a windswept rock by a calanque. A touch of smokiness, wild fennel, and bitter orange cocoa on the finish. Solar, powerful, evocative, and very serious. Long-lasting finish, chalky and firm. The wine is pure shape and structure.
