Les Vignerons de Tavel & Lirac A la Mano (Rosé)

The first vintage of this particular wine in the very fashionable chilled red style of Tavel. Bright cherry-ruby red. Floral, perfumed and juicy red fruit aromas, winey, black cherries, with dark liquoricesque hedgerow fruit, damsons and a whisper of juniper. Very much in the school of Eric Pfifferling, a light red wine prioritising crunchiness and fruit over oaky complexity. Smooth inky tannins, blue florals, spicy minerality and supple velvety black fruit, though fresh and remarkably mineral, almost angular acidity keeps it firm and concentrated. A tannic red but so smooth and silky; do not expect firm structure. Refreshing and thirst-quenching, very much a light summer red rather than a winter rosé, fruit-driven, zippy and charming rather than complex and oxidative. A great new direction for Tavel, the name 'a la mano' referring to the hands-on method of winemaking.
