Via Caritatis

The Abbey of Le Barroux is home to the oldest papal vineyard planted in 1309 by Pope Clement V, so maybe unsurprising that the abbey is one of four monastic communities who have chosen wine making as their main manual labour. By joining forces with the Caritatis winegrowers they have contributed to the growing reputation of the “Ventoux appellation”. Consultants Jean-Dominique Artaud, former head of the Domaine de Janasse in Châteauneuf-du-Pape and the late Philippe Cambie have helped craft two very different rosés: Vox and Lux. Lux is their premium wine made with old Grenache, grown in the Sisters’ enclosed vineyard where the land has mostly a deep layer of clay and lime soil and Syrah, grown with a westerly (morning to noon sunlight) on the sandy soils in the Saint Joseph plot, facing the monks’ monastery. Incredible weight and extraction with rich opulent black fruit (cassis, elderberry and wild plum) savoury notes, crushed black pepper, lavender and bitter almonds. The high altitude of 500m gives freshness. Bottled in dark glass.
