2020
Antinori Pian delle Vigne Brunello di Montalcino (Red) 2020 - 90Very pretty and floral on the nose. Orchard blossom, some red fruit. Hints of cream and torrefaction. Pretty jammy raspberries - almost too jammy on the palate, with jammy, opulent, juicy fruit falling over itself in enthusiasm. Lovely freshness, with more herbal garrigue and floral notes. Tannins are chalky but moderated, acidity is present but blunted by the juiciness of the fruit. Very aromatic - to the point of being a little one-dimensional. This is awfully pretty, remarkably approachable, but still very recognisably Brunello. Tastes youthful, in a really good way. Remarkably ready to drinl.

Antinori Pian delle Vigne Brunello di Montalcino (Red) 1997 - 91Dark mahogany, Scented cedar and red berry fruit. Long firm concentrated body and very high acidity, firm tannins, mouthwatering, intense and concentrated with lightness and elegance. Dark fruit. Intense cedar, chocolate, vanilla, coffee, herbal, garrigue. It's ever so slightly soupy on the palate, with deep barely mineral plummy tannins. Acidity and fruit take a back seat. It's really nice, but it lacks the beautiful balance of the Caprili. I think it was just big and jammy when young, and has only improved since then.
