Canalicchio di Sopra Riserva (Red)

Brick, almost translucent. A little bit dried out n the palate. There's some pretty sweet nuttiness from the oak - hazelnuts, hints of vanilla. A bit dried out o the palate, with chalky tannins, and a healthy dose of over-enthusiastic Italian extraction. A classic and slightly old-fashioned Riserva, although it is nicely balanced by lots of acidity, nice concentration, and some pretty redcurrant fruit. Nice elegance, and if you're going for a slightly over-oaked, over-extracted Riserva style, then this is a solid choice.
