Carpineto Brunello di Montalcino (Red) 2020 - OutstandingTasted by Elizabeth Gabay MW & Ben Bernheim

Semi-translucent, garnet. Subtly cooked fruit on the nose, lightly plummy, some dark cherries. Nicely perfumed. On the palate, beautifully crisp - has a precision, a linearity, a directness to it. Mineral, steely, obsidian-sharp, but on a pillow of velvety black fruit. Oak providing subtle sweet warmth - would have guessed at 225, but no. Tannins are powrful but very well-behaved, cut short by copious juicy berry acidity and lots of soft black cherry fruit. Ripe and delectable. A shockingly agreeable wine, and especially so for lovers of shiny black minerality.

Carpineto Brunello di Montalcino (Red) 2019 - OutstandingTasted by Elizabeth Gabay MW & Ben Bernheim

Opulent fresh, juicy cherries on the nose. A hint of dark chocolate, violets - very typical. Really beautiful and elegant. Softly extracted tannins, with a creamy nuttiness. Really elegant, with a freshness and balance that really outshines many of the wines. Power, beginnings of spice and complexity. Concentrated, intense, judicious maceration.
