Il Poggione Brunello di Montalcino (Red) 2020 - 91

Lots of blue flowers and black cherries on the nose. Hints of cacao, pretty rich fruit and just a hint of sweet oak. Lovely richness on the palate, with warming alcohol, lots of ripe fruit, and a hint of that sweetness coming through once again. Crunchy, full-bodied but with very pretty lightly floral black fruit. Lots of cacao and coffee, powerful tannins (that are still softened by the alcohol and most definitely not over-extracted, although they're still weighty). Lightly floral and perfumed, with lots of herbal - dill, parsley. Slightly saline on the finish. Nice complexity, pretty balance, good weight.

Il Poggione Brunello di Montalcino (Red) 2019 - 89

A touch of reduction. Some black cherries. HInts of liquorice, violets, tar, spice, cedar. Classic Sangiovese acidity, chalky tannins - well-extracted, but still nicely balanced by the fruit and a pretty, ripe floral fruitiness. Nice balance. Classic. Not quite forgettable, but solidly reliable, middle of the road
