Los Niñatos Cigales (Rosé) 2024 - OutstandingTasted by Elizabeth Gabay MW & Ben Bernheim

Pale coral pink. Lots of soft, silky ripe stone fruit on the nose, with cedar, eucalyptus and wild herbs. Concentrated, inky and textured, beautifully grippy yet ethereal and elegant. Wonderfully spiced and charming, with cloud-like delicacy and vibrant acidity. Concentrated and grippy on the finish, with a hint of salinity. Would have liked a touch more oomph on the mid-palate, as the delicacy can only take it so far, but this is a minor complaint for a really well-made Cigales that is a masterclass in oak-integration (Spanish and French), and the use of Gris and white grapes in making a pale but textured rosé. Balanced, complex, refreshing, intriguing and a genuine conversation-starter. Bottle 0037 of 1047, a limited-edition fine wine let down only by packaging that makes it look like a classic summer rosé.
