Vignobles Bonfils Château Capitoul Rive (Rosé) 2020 - RecommendedGolden copper, pale gold. Soft mellowed, oxidative fruit on the nose - age? oak? Lots of nuts, a hint of garrigue, almond blossom, bitter almonds, eucalyptus and a hint of menthol. For those who like a long oak-aged, slightly oxidative style rosé, this is very charming with salted bruised apples, fine saline acidity and lots of oak coming through. Possibly a little too delicate to manage strong flavours. Red fruit has mostly disappeared, and this is not a wine for those who aren't convinced of the merits of an oaked rosé. Alcohol is quite fierce on the finish, and the acidity is a little jagged. It is charming, distinctive, characterful and complex - and remarkably concentrated - but a little lacking in red fruit. It is a whole other category, not just a rosé with some weight and complexity. A very specific style which could be deemed oxidised and out of condition, or quirky in the Jura-esque natural wine scene.
