    Buçaco Reservado Rosado (Rosé) 2022 - Highly RecommendedTasted by Elizabeth Gabay MW & Ben Bernheim

    Sadly, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II was served only the red (1945) and white (1944) from Buçaco when she visited in '57, but supposedly they do still have a few old bottles in the cellar... Pale salmon. Quite a lot of spice and nutty oak on the nose. Smells rather more tertiary and evolved than I'd expect given its age. Crisp, elegant, quite chalky on the palate — more concentrated and refined than the nose would suggest. Lasting vibrant finish, some black inky fruit. Vibrant, glossy, confident and clearly unafraid of individuality. More balanced and textured than the Bairrada at half the price, but I'm not convinced it's the more structured or ageworthy wine.
