Contino Reserva Reserva (Rosé) 2021 - OutstandingTasted by Elizabeth Gabay MW & Ben Bernheim

A blend of Graciano and Garnacha fermented and aged for 9 months in 500l barrels, this beautiful cherry-copper pink has complex and alluring aromas. Generous spice, hints of old oak, a gentle leatheriness, subtle black tar and almost sun-baked pine resin and garrigue, with a whisper of ripe raspberries, red cherries and underripe wild plums, and an almost floral note of winter jasmine. On the palate the pine resin evolves to garrigue and then eucalyptus, keeping the fresh berry charm of the red fruit centre stage. Tight oaky tannins, firm minerality and saline tightness give this incredible length, yet delicate, balanced acidity on the finish reminds you that this is a rosé. Not a wine for those looking purely for fruity charm; it has all the trappings of cellar-worthiness and complexity, mouth-watering and elegant, while still keeping the fruit and charm for a classy summer evening. Jaw-droppingly good.
