    Les Béates Vin Mousseux de Qualité (VMQ) Extra Brut (Sparkling white) NV - Highly RecommendedTasted by Elizabeth Gabay MW & Ben Bernheim

    Dark lemon-gold white. Crisp white stone fruit on the nose, a hint of lemon, coconut, pineapple and very ripe fruit. Textural, lacy, chalky and mineral. A hint of white pepper. Zesty, energetic, high acidity, driven. Pure and elegant with very fine bubbles. Some extra depth to the fruit hinting at the use of black grapes. Not trying to be Champagne, but embracing southern fruit within the fine framework of elegant acidity giving finesse and length. Chenin really coming into its own here - an atypical wine that proves Provence can make good sparkling wine if it tries a good sparkling wine rather than a rosé with bubbles.
