Prior Lucas Fénix (Rosé) 2022 - Highly RecommendedAn exceptionally unique wine from Bairrada, aged in Macacauba wood barrels - an exotic hardwood from the Amazon. The pale copper hue and and soft, toffee, nutty aromatics clearly point the way to a rosé with some age. Promising rich, round fruit, but instead the lean austere character of the Baga variety dominates, with long, piercing acidic length, green apples and unripe redcurrants, Barrel ageing gives some weight and the oxidative handling helps to soften the edges and contributes some complexity, the fruit coming more to the fore as the wine opens up, taking on an old bruised apple character alongside a musty, scented wood nuttiness.
