Quinta das Bágeiras Pai Abel (Rosé) 2023 - ExceptionalTasted by Elizabeth Gabay MW & Ben Bernheim

The fourth vintage of this wine, made with a parcel selection of Baga blended with 10% of Bical and Maria Gomes (the local name for Fernao Pires), fermented and aged in Burgundian barriques. Partially harvested to retain freshness, and partially very ripe, the winemaking focuses on intensity of fruit and balanced structure. A pale coral pink with opulent white fruit on the nose, with dried fruit and a touch of sweet oak. Pretty black cherries and crunchy red fruit follow, showing exceptional phenolic ripe pithiness, supported by the sweetness of the oak and the ripeness of the fruit. Seriously classy, with lots of depth and serious concentration. Silky, rounded, concentrated and elegant. Bursting with charm and fruit, perfectly approachable and on par with the very best Gran Reservas, yet still ridiculously fruit-driven and fun. A good example of properly ripe Baga.
