Château Carpe Diem Major (Red)

Bright ruby red, semi-opaque. On the nose, a lot of raw new vanilla oak, alongside quite generous floral garrigue, leathery oak and lots of red fruit. The oak is overwhelming and there is not really enough fruit to carry it, despite plenty of soft, slightly sweet vanilla from the oak on the palate. Silky tannins, crisp, generous soft acidity and plenty of red fruit. Treading a very careful line between slightly international, evident new oak, and lovely concentration of fruit with utterly Provençal garrigue and floral spice. A hint of leather and drying cacao tannins. Firm and charming, with plenty of life ahead of it, but currently oak-dominated.
