Château de Sannes Castini (White) 2020 - OutstandingTasted by Elizabeth Gabay MW & Ben Bernheim

Pale lemon yellow. Restrained on the nose with some marzipan, a hint of almond blossom, white melon and pretty white citrus fruit. Oak barely evident on the nose but much more evident on the structure. Initially restrained on the palate, the vibrant acidity is long, giving time for the wine to open up and allowing the 100 year old vine Ugni Blanc to shine, contributing to lovely structure, depth of fruit and texture. Exceptionally concentrated without shout or even singing, it just whispers and lingers on the palate. Refined and classy this is a fabulous example of modern but traditional Provence, no oak, no thiols, just concentration and refinement.

Elizabeth started working with the wines of Provence back in 1986, and for the past 20 years has lived on the eastern edge of south-east France.
