Domaine de la Bégude La Brulade (Red) 2019 - OutstandingTasted by Elizabeth Gabay MW & Ben Bernheim

Heavy bottle! Semi-opaque smoky ruby. Blue-black fruit aromas with slightly smoky gunflint on the nose. Very bright red fruit, black treacle, toffee, brambles and black cherries. Big, bold, unapologetic and slightly smoky. Lots of blue fruit and brambles on the palate, with a touch of bitter cherry and cherry kernel almond notes. Drying, slightly dusty tannins with bright saline acidity and remarkably fresh textured tannins. Zesty, calm and slightly unassuming at first. Surprising lightness and delicacy for such a powerful wine. Elegant and powerful, with slightly floral pot pourri as it opens up. Big and classy; the tannins are still showing vibrant youthfulness, indicating an exceptionally long life ahead of it. Brulade always surprises us for its elegance and freshness - so it's no surprise that in a particular hot year such as 2019, it shines so brightly.
