Domaine de Trévallon Alpilles (Red) 2023 - ExceptionalDark ruby with hints of red-mahogany. Bursting with red fruit on the nose, and a tiny touch of garrigue, floral violets and a hint of privet flowers (a marker for Elizabeth of mature Cabernet). On the palate the garrigue moves on to subtle leafiness, with well-extracted tannins dripping in juicy red fruit, blackberries and a touch of cassis. Structured, concentrated, rigorous and disciplined, the tannins are confident, powerful and mouthgripping - not necessarily from oak but from the sheer concentration of ripe, intense, firm fruit. This is a wine so well constructed that there is no doubt that as those tannins mellow there is the weight and structure to survive. Just gets better and better in the glass - opens up magically to layers and layers of complexity and charm. Absolutely delicious but very young and needs time. A difficult wine to describe because it's not noticeably doing anything - it's just... perfect, sublime and the only glass Ben needed a second pouring of during tasting because there was just so much to think about.
