Domaine la Suffrène Les Lauves (Red) 2019 - Highly RecommendedSuffrène's top single-vineyard red Bandol. Dark purple with an opaque ruby core. Delicate and restrained on the nose with pot pourri and inky dark purple fruit. Initially showing freshly-bottled spritz that hides much of the fruit, supported by bold, chalky, highly extracted tannins. After decanting, what a different wine. Deep dark dense purple velvet, blue flowers, and crunchy red fruit emerge, smooth and supple but still with concentrated power. A wine that will divide opinion, as it is a slight departure from Suffrène's typical modernity, and a nod towards old school Bandol, typical of this very hot and dry vintage. Significant ageing potential, at the expense of being slightly unapproachable today. It's a massive softie at heart, but it needs ten years in the cellar before it will be to everyone's taste.th
