Domaine Saint-Jean de Villecroze La Chapelle (Red) 2022 - OutstandingTasted by Elizabeth Gabay MW & Ben Bernheim

Bright, semi-translucent ruby red. Restrained dark berry nose with lots of spice, beeswax and leather. The top red from a top historical Provence estate, and it shows. On the palate, slightly inky, mysterious and rather decadent. Opulent, juicy dark fruit, wild plum and fresh red berries are balanced by blue mineral tannins that are slightly leathery and drying, but beautifully softened by generous fruit and supple alcohol. Lovely vibrancy. Full-bodied, warm, charming and very Provençal; perfect for winter.

Elizabeth started working with the wines of Provence back in 1986, and for the past 20 years has lived on the eastern edge of south-east France.
