Deep opaque purple ruby. Somewhat restrained on the nose with some red fruit and red berries, violets and pencil shavings. Evident vanilla oak on the palate, especially towards the finish, with lots of chewy, woody, cedar tannins giving tight control to the big Syrah fruit. Crunchy red fruit, crisp and barely ripe tannins form a classy, well-made modern wine with a serious inky core. A standard-bearer for what the Luberon can do and how it can forge an identity of north Provence-style reds, although that combination of big chewiness with fresh red fruit touches more on Rhone GSM than Provence character. Good if the price is right and you want a big bold black chocolate Rhone style Syrah. Misses a higher score because it stumbles when asked to showcase complexity and depth.
