Mas Sainte Berthe was the first producer in Les Baux to plant Roussanne, and this wine shows their half century of experience with the variety. Pale lemon. Reductive on the nose, opening to crisp, crunchy, very pretty floral notes, a touch of white pepper, stem ginger and tropical fruit including mango, passion fruit and papaya. Soft bitter lemon freshness on the palate with some surprisingly nice perfumed Sorrento lemon fruit. A hint of gravelly gunflint continues way onto the finish, alongside some crunchy astringency and phenolic grip. Seriously zippy and chalky acidity, refreshing, vibrant and unexpectedly zesty. Lovely weight and intensity with an energy and vibrancy which is really quite joyful. Pretty, summery and very charming.
