Château Vignelaure Coteaux d’Aix-en-Provence (White) 2022 - Highly RecommendedWinemaker Philippe Bru loves Sauvignon Blanc, and that passion really shows in this wine. Pale lemon. Creamy butterscotch and lots of creamy oak on the nose - no shortage of evidence of malo and oak. On the palate, soft creamy butterscotch. Very soft and ripe with some fresh white lemon, zesty chalkiness and creamy malolactic notes. The fruit is a little sweet, showing overripe white peaches, toffee apples and almost a buttered-sweetcorn softness on the mid-palate. Bizarrely, I rather like this quirkiness; it is vibrantly fresh, mineral and beautifully rich. Silky and soft, ending surprisingly on a slightly saline, zesty finish. Almost caricaturally bold, rich, full of fruit and decadence. Remarkably ripe and opulent, to the point of being rather unusual. The oak still needs time to settle, but this is a uniquely bold wine, even if it is not to everyone's taste.
